Dear Listener,

When you’re a child, there’s nothing you dream of more than the day you will become an adult. The world seems exciting and the idea of being in charge of your own life is invigorating. We think about all of the things we’ll do the same as our parents – or the things we’ll do extremely differently because it will finally be our decision.

We dream of what we’ll do. How we’ll look. Who we’ll be. We don’t just fantasize over it. We believe it with every fiber of our being.

Then we enter our twenties and like a ton of bricks, realize that life isn’t that simple. You never truly call the shots because life is a never ending mystery. It’s an endless rollercoaster of twists and turns that are nine out of ten times, completely uncontrollable. But we’re in our twenties and we still want to smile and fake it because we’re sure we’re just the odd ones out. We scroll our timelines and see that Jenny Jack from high school just had a dream wedding. John what’s-his-name just opened a business. Mary Sue just had her first baby. We think everyone else has that picture perfect “adult” life.

Then we enter our thirties. We’ve done all of those things and more. We’ve suffered a miscarriage, closed a failed business, and cried with our spouse in some argument because we were both too embarrassed to admit we made a mistake.

Suddenly, we finally realize that nobody has it all figured out. Every adult is running around trying to look strong. Trying to act brave. Trying to just make it through the day without letting everyone else know what really is going on.

– And that’s what my debut album is about.

How it truly feels to be an adult – especially as a woman. Each song invokes a different emotion, representing the ever-changing journey of life. It’s about everything you lose and everything you gain. The parts of yourself you naively believe you’ve left behind. The shards of glass you’ve broken off from the past to create a better version of yourself. The glistening gems you’ve added over the years that make you shine brighter than ever before.

It’s about everything you want to say but don’t because you don’t think you’re supposed to.

It’s about “Not Something Adults Should Say”.

With Love,
Justine
